Lockdown in Paris: Day 53

It’s Fun Friday. Or maybe I should call it Food Friday, because you guys are cooking up a storm. With so many impressive confinement culinary feats in my newsfeed I had to reprise this food highlights column and share these triumphs with the world once more.

THE PHOTO IS AS IMPRESSIVE AS THE DISH

Friend Sean shared his attempt at “Maria’s Orange and Fennel Salad.” Maria is my sister (a raw foods chef) and this is a twist on our family’s orange salad recipe. Looks successful, Sean!

Buddy and Paris flea market mavin, Claudia Strasser (The Paris Apartment, Paris Flea Market Style), baked this apple pie with her mom. I know, right? This photo could easily be in any foodie magazine. You can see more of Claudia’s beautiful photos of Paris home style, here.

KITCHEN INTERNATIONAL

Friend Edward is at it again. On the left, what he calls “Asiany Rice Noodles,” and his sesame chicken, right. Just a little something he tossed together. Below, another friend took us to Mexico with her brunchy migas.

And this is my contribution: my mom’s chili recipe using two kinds of beans. I also added some cocoa for an extra kick (sorry, Ma!).

AND THE OVERACHIEVER AWARD GOES TO…

Patty, aka Genuine France, had a bunch of lemons so she made…limoncello. And lemon bars.

“Your dog is funny looking,” I commented on Matthew’s post of his shiitake garden. That’s right, he is cultivating shiitake mushrooms in his Tokyo apartment. I might be growing mushrooms, too…inside my bathroom walls. Paris is very damp, you know. Below, a video of Matthew harvesting his first crop. (Yes, he’s speaking fluent Japanese.)
